This Blog is NOT dead

March 9, 2011

It’s reconnected. Due to some personal problems I was unable to work on my 3D models. Normally i would not post something like this on this blog. I have a personal blog for this sort of thing. I do feel the need to explain though. I’m slowly picking up my life again, things aren’t great yet but things are a lot better than a few months ago. I have begun working on my projects again and hope to post some new work soon. Be patient with me. Like my life, this blog will be up and running again.

I will be back…

Disconnected…

June 30, 2010

My dear readers,

It’s been busy. I haven’t had a lot of time to work on my 3D (and that hurts me). First things, first though. Get my own things up and running again. Getting my life a little back on track. That’s what’s been keeping me from writing and working. Oh, and also that I don’t have an internet connection any more.  So I have limited internet access at best. So all I ask of you is to bear with me. Before you know it I’m back posting new work.

Have a great summer and I’ll see you when I see you ;)

Mini-me…sort of

May 13, 2010

I’ve been quite busy these past few days. I haven’t gotten around to do a whole lot of work…Well, that’s not really true. I’ve been working on a “self-portrait” if you want to call it that. The style I’m going for is stylised, cartoony. It’s not quite there yet. What I ultimately really want is a style comparable to that of the Clone Wars. It’s very much a work in progress. The eyes need a little work but all in all it’s going pretty good with this latest project. One thing though, this is tough as nails! I’ve never really done something like this actually. I’m a self-taught guy so I don’t know all the tricks when it comes to human modelling. I’m planning on animating this one too. It’s going to be a while before you see the finished product…but when you do, I hope you’ll enjoy it.

3D stereoscopic 3D!

April 23, 2010

My first attempt at something like this. I used 2 cameras to do this but I think the image is wrong for something like this. Or perhaps I didn’t do it right. Still there is some sense of depth. Put ‘em on if you got em and see for yourself. In the mean time I’ll keep experimenting and make a better image.

These are a few of my favorite things…

April 20, 2010

A very simple room. I’m playing a bit around with Simcloth 3 and I have the feeling I haven’t even scratched the surface. I’ll be looking in to that to get some better results in the future. I’ve been trying to keep the models as simple as possible.  I’ll get to more complex things when I feel I’m ready for it. Playing with the light is the most important thing to me now. Oh, and the albums and artist featured in the image are just some of my favourites. That’s it! I’m done and gone! I’ve gotta go back to work!

Minimum, maximus.

April 17, 2010

Just a quick update here. I’ve been seeing all these images all over the net of very simple objects rendered in me the most beautiful way. I tried to do something like this too. 3 vases in a room. That’s it…and I wanted to see if I could get the maximum out of a minimal setting. Light is the key. I’ve added some depth too. Also, I’m the most unoriginal guy in the world since I based this image on a photograph I once saw on the net. Oh, well…

Ye olden days

April 11, 2010

Not to long ago I moved. Just dumped everything in boxes and off I went. So I was looking for some more old unfinished 3D projects on other cd-roms and then I found my old portfolio! On the cd-rom was an animation I made when still attending the SAE technology college. The assignment was to make a leader for MTV. We were free to do whatever we want and free to use whatever programs to wanted to. Others used Flash or Director. I guess I was the odd one out ’cause I used Cinema 4d. Already I took an interest in CGI back in 1999.

Now, i’m a big Star Wars fan…nay, A HUGE Star Wars fan. The Phantom Menace was about to be released in theatres and I was a influenced a little then “more” by those films and wanted to make my own “Space battle”. I even lifted a scene right out of the Phantom menace (Can you guess which one?). This is not the best animation ever. The picture quality is a little too dark for my taste but it oozes with my youthful ambition and it’s not that bad for a first animation. Now before all of my old cd-roms go bust I want to preserve these kind of old works. It’s a testament of why I wanted to be in this 3D biz anyway. That “youthful” excitement and ambition is slowly returning to me.

Jackie’s Room.

April 8, 2010

What is it with Paul Rivoche’s art that makes me want to turn it into 3 dimensions? I love his designs, its simplicity and its beauty. The making of this image was anything but simple though. The modelling of the room it self was not hard. The thing that bugged me was the level of detail in the original art. I admittedly took some liberties with that. For instance the missing pillows on the bed in my image. I felt, it didn’t need to be there. The bed as I modelled it was good enough. Or I can just come clean and tell the truth…I got lazy.

Again, no fancy modelling. A lot of the textures were custom but for the most part I yet again used the standard Arch and Design materials. I actually started this one in…I am ashamed to say this. I started this in 2003. Found it again on an old cd-rom. Completely texture-less and empty. So the books, fluffy toys, other stuff, carpet and custom textures were all done in Photoshop and 3Ds Max 2010. A lot of the things your going to see on this blog is old work I never finished and new stuff of course.

Cleaning up the past!

April 8, 2010

Some of you might recognize this picture. Yep, it’s the same one I made in 2008. For those who haven’t seen it yet, head on OVER HERE to check out the old version. While learning a bit about mental ray, I decided to go back and clean this up a bit. I’d thought I’d fix this in no time. WRONG. It had me tinkering with the mental ray settings a lot for a long time. It humbled the hell out of me and kept me grounded. Oh, yes I have a lot to learn and a long way to go. The image however, is cleaned up considerably and only now do I consider it truly finished.

I used 3ds Max 9 for the modelling. However this new render was done in 3ds Max 2010. No fancy modelling or texturing. I used the standard Arch and design materials for the textures. My original intent was if I could create a fairly realistic scene in a short amount of time. This is very much a mental ray study.

There again…

April 8, 2010

Ah, here we are again. Fresh at the beginning. Picking this 3D thing up where I left of in 2008. Now I’ve already gone into detail of WHY I started this new blog. I won’t go into that again here. All I can say is I’m pretty excited about it again. I’m actually finishing up a lot of projects and did more in a week then I did in a whole year. So, stay with me. Check my work out. Hope you like it, hope to receive some tips ‘n trick and constructive criticism. Yes, my friends! 2010…The year we REALLY get of our asses!
